Phamaly Theatre Company
These projects were produced as part of the
DU Theatre Tech Intern Program (TTIP)
Phamaly really was the genesis of TTIP. In 2016, the company contacted NCPA, our performing arts center. They typically present their Summer musical in the Denver Center Complex downtown- but the theatre was being renovated. Would NCPA be interested in hosting the company for a production of Evita? The roadhouse did not typically do theatre, and they were not suited for a long performance run. But the Theatre department’s Byron Theatre was open for the Summer. We negotiated an agreement where Phamaly’s team of designers and carpenters moved into our shop and theatre, and we hired a small group of our students to work as assistants and run crew. It was magical- the three students involved and I became part of the Phamaly team, helped build and produce the show, and watched the onstage growth of these inspiring folks. They also were instrumental in helping us understand the limitations of our theatre and adapt it to make it more disability-friendly.
We were excited to reconnect with them in the Summer of 2023 for Midsummer!
Take a look at the partnership between Phamaly and TTIP!
Phamaly Theatre Company's mission is to be a creative home for theatre artists with disabilities; to model a disability-affirmative theatrical process; and to upend conventional narratives by transforming individuals, audiences, and the world.
